It is easier for parents to raise children today than it was 50 years ago

Needless to say, raising children is never a light work, no matter what times we are in. However, some people state that it is easier for parents to bring a kid up today than it was 50 years ago. From my perspective, I believe that it is much more demanding nowadays.

To being with, it is difficult for parents to maintain children’s mental health under a more intense competition society. The modern society has proposed higher requisites for the children today than it was 50 years ago, requiring not only the various career abilities but also the strong psychological endurance. For example, 50 years ago, assuring kids finished the homework is enough to support their education. However, nowadays, parents have to send their kids to cram schools after regular school hours, which increases both financial burden of family and mental pressure of kids.

Secondly, it is challenging for parents to understand and guide children’s thoughts under a comprehensive information society. Kids today have more choices to answer their confusion and more possibility to approach mixed ideas through media and the internet. Generally, kids may consider they have a generation gap with their parents, and hence sharing their trouble with friends even strangers online. On no account could parents be relaxed without communicating with their kids. A fleckless child is more worrying than a flawed one.

Admittedly, with technology and the economy growing fast, it truly provides parents more convenience to raise children. For example, the robots can help cook dinner, clean the house, and care for children, even teach their homework. Meanwhile, parents could get in touch with their kids through smartphones. In the past, the population loss rate is much higher than it is today. Thanks to the GPS orientation and more efficient alarm system, it is easier for parents to bring children up safely.

To conclude, it might be true that it is easier to satisfy their material life than ever before. However, there is sufficient evidence to prove that it is tougher to support their education and guide their mental development.
