Nowadays, an increasing number of people concentrate on road safety during the rapid development of the traffic system, and whether governments should impose severe punishment for driving offences has caused a heated debate. In my opinion, it is necessary for us to punish the offenders with the harsh policy.

Firstly, it is true that severe punishment has a deterrent effect on the public. In fact, the reason why many people break road laws is that they do not care about it. For example, drunk driving used to be common in China because of the lenient policy, but when china government passed a new law which can sentence them to life imprisonment, it made a huge difference to the situation. Clearly, the harsh policy is the best way to combat road crimes.

Besides, our society spends lots of money which taxpayers offer to build safer infrastructure, which helps people avoid traffic accidents that caused by these offenders. Obviously, those who make troubles must pay a high price for what they have done, so a higher fine is just what we need.

That is not to say that governments will force anyone who may park his car wrong to serve a long prison term. Apparently, to impose severe and same punishment on whoever makes mistakes will not only make chaos but also impose a huge burden on the police system. But the new policy will just focus on giving appropriate but higher punishment for every driving offence, so we do not need to worry too much.

In conclusion, most people think they can drive what they want is a dangerous thing for every citizen, so it is a duty for our government to protect us by using severe punishment. By doing this we can imagine a safer road and a safer society.
