People today spend too much time on personal enjoyment – doing things they like to do rather than doing things they should do.

First and foremost, I believe nobody, except the person himself or herself can decide what he or she should do. I suppose the compulsory works mentioned in the statement are majorly social expectations, like children should go to school and adults should have a job. But although social expectations can offer you some reference on how to adjust to main trend, it cannot set the life target or value criterion for you.

Some may accuse that indulging on personal enjoyment leads to escaping work, earn no money and rarely contribute to the society, but that is not always the truth. Many people convert hobbies into jobs and achieve great success. A great amount of beauty experts, food lovers and keen travelers become well known Youtuber and blogger these days. Not only do they bring happiness to social media users, they also boost economic growth and assist the spread of information around the world.

Besides, being able to spend time on personal enjoyment is what people are looking forward to for thousands of years. Our ancestors struggle for food, safe shelter and liberty for generations. We are granted with the choice of spending time on personal enjoyments because of high productivity and relatively adequate resources brought by them. In this case, what we should do is to construct a better world where everyone has the right to chase for entertainment and diversion.

To sum up, despite the fact that lure of enjoyment can harm people’s academic or working performance, the benefits of spending time on personal pleasure outweigh the forfeit. Life purpose is self-defined, our task is to grant everyone with the right of enjoying and entertaining.
