TOEFL Essay Topic: Some parents offer their school-age children money for each high grade (mark) they get in school. Do you think this is a good idea?

In my school life, my reason of study hard is to get smiles on my parents’ face and to have a promising future. And most of my schoolmates have the same purpose as mine to getting a good grade. I believe that no stimulations that comes from outside of my heart could compare with the stimulations that comes from inside of my heart. In a word, it is not a good idea to offer money to school-age children who get high grade.

I have been a school-age boy either, and I think it is no use to stimulate me to get a high score with money. For school-age children, they have not formed a mature value of money, which means they may spend money on some less important things. Or even more, the money might have some bad influence of their study if it is spent on some toys or videogames. In this case, money could make children get a low score on the next examination. So, in my point of view, it is not wise to encourage school-age children to perform well on examinations with money.

Besides, the best method to stimulate a school-age child for a better mark is to let him or her know the importance of study. One of my friends, Lisa, never study and have no care on her score once. But at a time, our teacher Mr. Zhang talked to her about the importance of study and what advantages are with a high grade on the University Entrance Examination. After that, Lisa changed a lot, she starts to study harder than all of my classmate, and get the best score of my class on the University Entrance Examination. In this term, I have confidence to say that one can get a surprisingly good mark only if he or she knows the importance and the value of study.

In conclusion, offering money to a school-age child when he or she get a high mark is not a wise idea. School-age children will get a satisfied score without stimulation if they know the importance of study. And all parents should do is let their children know about what advantages are and how good could they be with a good grade.
