People hold different views over a controversial topic that whether following rules will benefit the youngsters in the future. While obeying orders might be helpful in many perspectives, I deem that leaving some space for children to decide independently should be given more priority.

Some people argue that obeying rules is beneficial for children in many aspects. It is vital for children to form the habit of following rules as when everyone in society knows the importance of obeying rules, resulting in the decrease of crime. In addition, completing tasks and negotiating with colleagues accordingly is the basic requirement of being a good employee in the near future. Finally, people need norms to guide and direct their behaviour and promote the understanding of each other’s actions.

However, children’s ability of independent thinking might be affected by the excessive regulation from parents. Children who only focus on what they had been taught and value what they had been told probably will lose their competence of creating new ideas because they will be conscientiously obeyed the rules of the school or home. For example, my parents forced me to take part in many extra curriculum that I don’t like during high school, which distracted my attention to activities I like Gradually, without their own consideration about the future, they might miss the opportunity to fulfill their potentials in the fields like art and music.

In my view, children have the right to make decisions on their own and choose what they want to do for the benefit of individual growth, even though obeying rules may have many advantages in one’s life.
