Air transport is increasingly used to export fruit and vegetables to countries where they cannot be grown are or out of season. Some people think this is a positive development, but others believe the use of air transport for this purpose is not justified. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Each year brings further evidence that we are living in a global village. More and more fruits and vegetables from other countries are reached to our dinner tables. Thereby, the topic of whether it comes as an advantage or not has been widely discussed. As far as I see, though opportunities and risks coexist, this trend brings more benefits than menaces.

To begin with, against a backdrop of globalization, the increasingly frequent airlifts between different countries have already led to a heavy burden of our environment. While citizens are enjoying their sufficient amounts of varied foods, the fuel consumption and exhaust emission are keeping mounting due to the constant air transportation. Apart from that, with the emergence of a large stream of imported products, hardly could domestic products remain immune. Though this tendency may be expected to be a benign competition, it is hard to level this playing field. Flocks of consumers, showing a craze for overseas foods, have a low opinion of domestic counterparts, for example.

On the credit side, as the species of foods become overwhelmingly adequate, civilians have more choices, which drive forward their living standards. Simultaneously, more options than ever spur consumers’ demand and promote market prosperity. It is a key determinant of social stabilization. Meanwhile, besides caters to people’s needs and serves a purpose of economic growth, it also contributes to ease the burden of grain stocks of some countries, by reaching a balance between shortage and overproduction through import and export.

To sum up, though there are some side-effects looming on the horizon on the current trend, one underlying fact will in all likelihood remain unchanged: it brings vibrancy as well as openness to different countries , so is to our lives. I concede that we should embrace this new lifestyle for reasons of choice and necessity.
