All students should be required to take basic science class, even if it is not part of their study field

Education, the foundation of quality life, has been valued and even trigger heated discussion over whether students should take basic courses or not. My perspective is that taking basic science classes, such as biology, geography, is superior, due to the contribution to their academic learning and personal development.

What must be prioritized is that taking basic science classes, instead of not studying these classes, is beneficial to academic learning, by offering them more academic knowledge and triggering their enthusiasm in learning. To begin with, it is basic science classes that provide students with a large quantity of expertise. In detail, during these classes, students can obtain some basic science knowledge, which is not required in their major classes. This knowledge could help students understand how the universe works, why some natural phenomena occur. Also, it is beneficial for students to enlarge their knowledge base; in contrast, without taking these classes, they cannot obtain such a large amount of knowledge. Moreover, never can we ignore the significance of basic science class to students’ interest in learning. To explain it further, by learning some expertise about basic theory in the class, students are likely to find it interesting to explore the unknown world.

What should be equally worth discussion is that learning basic science courses, rather than only taking the courses required in students’ major, can promote students’ personal development, by honing their interpersonal skills and time management skills. First, it is well-acknowledged that taking extra classes like basic science classes can improve students’ ability in time management. To be more specific, with the requirement for additional science classes, students must arrange their activities in spare time more reasonable, instead of lying on the bed a whole day since they have nothing necessary to do; on the contrary, under no circumstances will they be aware of the importance about time management. Additionally, when taking a basic science class, students can practice their communication skills. Specifically, students have more opportunities to interact with people from different backgrounds and cultures, since these classes are opened to all students on campus.
