TPO 50: All university students should be required to take history courses no matter what the field of history is.

Nowadays, lots of people recognize the significance of learning history. However, lots of university students think that they aren’t major in history and they don’t need to learn history. I firmly believe all university students should be required to take history courses no matter what their field of study is.

First of all, it’s necessary for people to learn the history of their own country, which is an integral part of a country’s education. The definition of history is that it is a collection of cultures and events in a long or short period of a region or a section. So it’s significant for students to learn ther own country’s history, which will let them possess the recognition of their country. For instance, I have a friend named Jason, he’s born in the America, but he came back to China 3 years ago. He hardly had no conception of China’s history, this made him feel isolated in his own country. Consequently, people is bound up with his own country, if he or she doesn’t familiar with the history of his or her own country, it will be very missing.

Furthermore, if you’re not major in history, learning history can also improve your knowledge and broaden your horizon. A Chinese wise man said: “Reading history makes people clever. According to a recent survey conducted by China Education Association(CEA), which polled over 10000 students all over the country who have learnt some auxiliary history courses, eighty percent of the respondents confessed that they felt their thinking ability has improved after learning history courses. Additionally, one of the respondents said that he found he can think deeply and profoundly about life, society, and economy after learning history. So it’ll be beneficial for students to learn history course even if they’re not major in history.

In conclusion, students should be required to take history courses no matter what their field of study is. On the one hand, this can make them familiar with history of their own country, On the other hand, improving knowledge can benefit them a lot.
