As people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate.

The speaker suggests that human’s ability to think for themselves will surely deteriorate when people rely more on technology to solve problems. Indeed, this position seems to be extreme, as technology do provide us huge benefits. However, this claim is appropriate as it consider some substantial concerns that most people omit, both in individual level and society level.

First, it is hard to deny that technology is playing an important part in our daily life, everyone use technology in this or that way to solve some quotidian things, like alarm clock or phone call, which give people more time than ever in the history to escape from daily stuff. Nevertheless, it doesn’t mean that people have more time to think for themselves since technology also take huge amounts of time from people to celebrity, which is also an unprecedented phenomenon in human history, all the TV programs, short movies and fruitless communication hold people so tight that most of them don’t have time to think about some truly crucial problems in their life. Why we are here? How can I achieve my personal value? I’m sure that these old school questions disappeared exactly nowadays.

On the other hand, this problem is even more severe on the societal level. Human is composited by both logic and emotion, but technology only contains one of them——logic. There are too many examples in the history that when a society see technology as more substantial rather than the best part of emotional humanity——moral, something terrible will happened and it will cause catastrophic effects on all human being. Take Hitler as a case, he successfully draw the Germany’s attention to the high biotechnology and make a claim from the seems right logic, if Aryan people is the best nation in the world, than others should be diminished to make the best world. This bloody instance came from nowhere but relying too much on technology and assumption behind it.

Afterall, the essence of the question is about the connection between doing and thinking, and the space for human to do and think. The fact is that when we try to make a behavior, no matter it is big or tiny, on individual or societal level, we need to think to solve that problem, and this basic thinking is dispensable for the deductive thinking for oneself. If we rely more and more on technology to solve problems, which means we will lose more and more space to do and to think, it is no doubt that our ability to think further, like our past, present and future will deteriorate.

In sum, the speaker’s position is totally propriate and even insight or precedent, although it may seems to be extreme consider the important role of technology played in our daily life, however, we shouldn’t realize the negative effect caused by technology only after it really happens.
