At the present time, the population of some countries includes a relatively large number of young adults, compared with the number of older people. Do the advantages of this situation outweigh the disadvantages?

Manufactured food and drink have a bad reputation because of health reasons, too much sugar contained in these products often results in enormous latent disease. Some people harbour an idea that increasing the price of sugary products contributes to less consumption on them, but, when weighing the pros and cons,it becomes clear that while this method have some benefits, the negatives clearly outweighs them.

First of all, people consume plenty of sugary products because sugar is a substance that easily leads to addiction.Scientific research indicates that the intake of sugar will stimulate a region in consumer’s brain that provides good feelings, which causes people’ obsession with it.Increasing price of sugar products does not impede the formed addiction to sugar,on the contrary, the bad feeling of spending more money for purchase even gives rise to a stronger desire for sugar to compensate.

Further more,to citizens of developing and underdeveloped countries who are in poverty, the lack of calorie forces them to ingest food and drink with high levels of fat and sugar in order to maintain their daily life or stay warm. How unfortunate if these products become more expensive to them, because people who should intake less sugar are just the people who are affluent enough to neglect the small change in price, and the people who can not withstand the little rise of price are clearly just those who really need them.

To be fair, however, the increase of prices of sugary products does have benefits. For example, many manufacturers cheat consumers who want healthy food with obscure ingredient lists, the distinction of prices of food and drink benefits these consumers in better recongnising true healthy food, resulting in the reducing possibility of unconscious excessive intake of sugar. But still, the cons are far greater.

It is obvious that increasing prices of sugary products will not solve the problem of excessive intake of sugar.Only if governments’ food sector and food manufacturers collaborate to raise people’ awareness of the significance of healthy eating, can customers begin to consume less sugar.
