Because people are busy doing so many different things, they do very few things well.

Recent years have witnessed an obvious trend that there are much more so-called “Slash Youth” than ever before which means except their major career, they have other various hobbies and identities. Despite this tendency, I believe the young people should focus on a specific area to distinguish themselves.

To begin with, limited energy makes it impossible to carry all different tasks well at the same time. We have only 24 hours a day and multitask finishing at the same time would be hard for us. On the contrary, if people want to do an excellent job,  they can only focus on one thing, even in the whole time of life. Many outstanding scientists are good cases in point. For instance, Professor Yuan Longping centered on rice planting during his whole life and his invention of  hybrid rice save thousands of people’ lives in the world who were at starvation before. Hence, it indicates that only if we put our limited energy in one specific area and make every endeavor to do it, can it be possible for us to achieve something in career.

On top of that, being occupied with different tasks make it difficult to identify which is the major task and cause disorder. Encountering so many different tasks will prevent us from recognizing which task is the major one. If we distribute average time on each task, we can not finish the job which is important but challenging. As a result, we can do very few things well. Instead, those who only facing one task can concentrate on the work without distraction. In this way, they can do it very well and make progress to themselves.

Living in a society featured by pluralism, what is recognized is that the society need the talents who are expert in certain areas but not the one who knows many thing but do not specialize. In conclusion, people are not supposed to get occupied with many different things due to the limited energy and complicated management. Instead, we young generation should distinguish ourselves in a specific area to make more contribution.
