The chart presents the information about Carbon Dioxide emissions per person in four countries(the UK, Sweden, Italy and Portugal) between 1967 and 2007.

Starting at 9 tonnes CO2 emissions that released by people in Sweden, the figure shows a rapidly increase to a peak of 10.5 tonnes. Thereafter, there has a dramatic drop from 10.5 tonnes in 1977 to 7 tonnes in 1987. Then, followed by a steady fall to 5.5 tonnes in 2007.

In the contrast, the CO2 emissions released by person in Italy witnessed a different pattern with counterpart in Sweden. Beginning from 4.5 tonnes of CO2 emissions shows a consistent increase in after several decades, which is similar with the changes in the CO2 emissions in Portugal. In 1987, the emissions has outnumbered Sweden’s figure.

The CO2 emissions of the UK starting at a peak of around 11 tonnes, after this, this number remained stable for next 10 years, and the CO2 emissions shows a downward trend through out the whole period.

Overall, the CO2 emissions of Italy and Portugal both have an upward trend from 1967 to 2007. The number of Sweden was increased in 1977, but fell in rest of period. The UK is the only country that shows a consistent decrease in CO2 emissions.
