College students should be encouraged to pursue subjects that interest rather than the courses that seem most likely to lead to jobs.

I agree with the view that students take interest into consideration when pursuing subjects instead of choosing the courses that seem most likely to lead to jobs.

Basically, a great number of students must encounter challenging situations after graduation. That is what sort of jobs will they gain or how much salary they earn, which is an extremely reasonable question, whereas, if they have studied courses that lead to jobs, they can pay back their college tuition debt and make more money. Nevertheless, without strong interest in a certain field, it is not likely that anyone can master the skills needed by the job markets, let alone make money. For example, in the recent trends, software engineers and data scientists are the most renowned occupations, thus, parents and teachers tend to encourage students to attend electrical engineering courses because they can acquire higher payment than other graduates. However, electronics and circuitry are significantly challenging, students who are not interested in the field are not likely to comprehend the class materials, most of them are likely to have a miserable college life.

In addition, the jobs that are promising today could be the jobs that people avoid tomorrow. For example, two years ago, there was a great deal of demand for national or international tourism industries. Accompanied by the increased populations in the world, there were plenty of potential profits for tourism. Nonetheless, the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak is continuing to grow, each government forbids everyone from going out and flying abroad. Therefore, if some college students study courses related to tourism management, the past thriving prosperity cannot guarantee them to make money, otherwise, fresh college graduates with tourism degrees cannot find full-time positions in tourism companies. On the contrary, arts and design were once parents would strongly dissuade their children from choosing. Nowadays, online shopping is popular consumption lifestyle, the only way for compelling consumer to shop is to give the products eye-catching appearance and design, so many companies are willing to pay high salaries to recruit people with strong design skills in marketing team.

Of course, the way for people to be satisfied with their life is to make large amounts of money. Clearly, there are some occupations that are great in demand, and college students can pursue their courses based on corresponding occupations to assure that they will not acquire an unstable income. However, people spend nearly two-thirds of their waking hours at work, if people dislike what they are doing at work, it is not likely that they will enjoy their life. Therefor, they should find interest during their time in college by choosing courses, not wait until their miserable work days start.

It may be realistic for students to choose courses that lead to jobs, while choosing courses that interest them is more realistic in the long term. As a result, college students should follow their passion and find out what they are interested in.
