    Consumers are faced with an increasing number of advertisements from competing companies. To what extent do you think are consumers influenced by advertisements? What measures can be taken to protect them?

    In today’s material world, we’re surrounded with various forms of advertising. I believe a large number of advertisements may be harmful to consumers. Therefore, the government is supposed to take effective measures to control.

    The negative influence of advertising from different companies is evident. The first point to make is that advertising does make us spend unnecessary money we do not need to. Nowadays there are so many different forms of advertisements ranging from television commercials to simple flyers that encourage us to buy diverse goods. In this situation, buyers are likely to purchase items impulsively without considering between disposal income and expenditure. As a consequence, advertising may bring about financial problems to customers. On the other hand, we should recognize one merit of advertisement. It can provide customers with the latest information regarding the commodities and service. For instance, some commercials disseminate information to sell books and toys of educational value. Parents can purchase the best product although they are not familiar with the options available in the market.

    As it has been mentioned above, the government should take quick actions to protect consumers. Firstly, consumer protection law should be enforced by authority. If sellers present   false advertisement to the public, government must fine heavily. Also, the local TV station and website should increase the cost of advertisements to be shown through the mass media. What’s more, another effective approach is to establish and impose a strict censorship aiming advertising   on mass media. In this way, the current issues of advertisement can be minimized.

    In summary, the shortcoming of advertisement cannot be ignored. Certainly, Government ought to take the responsibility to reduce negative impacts and protect the rights of consumers.
