Creative artists should always be given the freedom to express their own ideas

Creative artists should always be given the freedom to express their own ideas(in words, pictures, music or film)in whichever way they wish. There should be no government restrictions on what they do. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

The problem that whether artists could enjoy absolute freedom in terms of expressing their ideas, is not a new one. While some people hold the view that artists could only be allowed to display their ideas in an approved way, I would argue that artists need freedom to create fantastic works.

It makes a good sense that government should set appropriate limitations on artists’ creation, though. After all, our history has seen a lot of detrimental consequences caused by letting artists express themselves freely. People got brainwashed, put themselves in the wrong direction. However, the restriction from the government should be controlled in an appropriate level since artists should always be given the freedom to show their wisdom.

Initially, liberty gives birth to magnificent works. We all know that trees should be grown on spacious land, otherwise soon or later they will creep onto the ground and destroy everything surrounding them. This applies to great works too. Take China for example. In Qing dynasty of China where the emperor established a whole restriction system to suppress artists’ enthusiasm of creation, which led to rifle the birth of excellent works.

Secondly, artists’ various ways of illustrating their thoughts satisfy different people’s needs. As is known to us all, everyone has different views about the same work. Thus, it is necessary that people find their unique way of receiving wisdom embedded within works. Some through street painting, others through behaviour art.

In general, I firmly believe that freedom is what artists need to produce good works. Although sometimes there is need for government’s regulation.
