IETLS Writing Topic: Human activities have negative effects on plant and animal species. Some people think it is too late to do anything about this problem. Others believe that effective measures can be taken to improve this situation. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

As a result of various human activities, such as deforestation and over-grazing, many plant and animal species are faced with the problems of less food and loss of habitats. Although the damage that has been made to some animals and plants is currently irreversible, the possibility of improving the deteriorating situation of flora and fauna will remains as long as individuals take action and relevant technological advances continue.

Given current technologies, it seems that little can be done to prevent threatened animal and plant species from becoming extinct. However hard scientists have tried, for example, the numbers of white Rhinos, Bali tigers and many other animals have been continuously falling, which is an unavoidable consequence of their habitats where land degradation and deforestation are severe problems becoming unsustainable for survival.

In the long term, however, the challenges faced by wildlife and rare plant species can be combated. First of all, if the importance of living a greener life could be realized through education, more people would adopt a lifestyle consuming less fossil fuels, which could positively contribute to mitigating the greenhouse effect and restoring a sustainable environment for animals and plants. Developing new technologies is also an effective solution to improve the situation. For example, cloning and gene-editing technologies may be used in the future to increase the number of endangered species until they can be reintroduced into the wild.

In conclusion, my view is that the problems associated with the extinction of animals and plants appear impossible to be addressed at present, but positive individual action and continuous technological advances will possibly reverse the worrying trend in the future.
