Nowadays, in the process of urbanization, the continuous expansion of urban space and human activities has caused great harm to plants and animals on the planet where we live together. Some people believe that the destruction is irreparable and irreversible. Any measures are too late to be done. However, others hold the view that there is still hope to change this negative situation through effective action. From my perspective, I think citizens can work effectively with joint force to make the situation better and provide a friendly homeland for all the species.

It’s undeniable that human activities like logging, farming, fishing and so forth have devastated the habitats of diverse species. An increasing number of them are now at risk of extinction or even the worse, some species have disappeared. The Yangtze River, one of the most important rivers to China, has a variety in plants and animals. There lives a kind of alligators exactly named by the river. This type of alligators lives on fishes and other aquatic animals in damp areas such as swamps and wetlands. However, residents near the Yangtze River used to throw garbage into it. These behaviors seriously contaminated the alligators’ habitat and killed a large quantity of them. Now, the alligators are facing huge challenges of survival.

However, we can still take valid steps to fix the situation. First of all, governments should legislate protection for endangered plants and animals. Authorities should enhance supervision and give strict punishment to illegal crimes. Secondly, natural reserves are essential to provide perfect environment for those species. Last but not least, people should be conscious of the importance of biodiversity. Besides, they should raise awareness of protection for plants and animals.

In conclusion, it’s not late to ameliorate current situation as long as everyone shows concern to other species on the Earth. Every individual can make a difference to the environment.
