If a goal is worthy, then any means taken to attain it are justifiable.

The importance of a good results of hard work has been valued and even triggers a heated discussion over whether people should attain the worthy goal regardless how to get it. If the result is valuable, in some people’s views, they are willing to afford whatever they need to pay and all methods to attain the goal are justifiable. Contrary to these people’s opinions is my perspective that, whether certain means are justifiable in reaching a goal must be determined on a case- by- case basis, by viewing the benefits of attaining the goal against the cost or harm, that might accrue along the way.

What must be prioritized is that whether the goal is worthy enough that we have to pay for it should be considered in whole life term and we should set restrain to the means. To begin with, only the goals that are good for people’s whole-life term individual development are worthy to spare no effort to get them. For example, winning the medal is worthwhile for athletes, however many athletes with injuries give up the game if it is risky for their health. In detail, the athletes who gave up one game and avoided injuries that may destroy their whole career, and then win medals in later games are insightful. They made the decision to consider the benefits and cost in their whole career life. Moreover, to get a good result, the means should be restricted also considering gain and loss. When it comes to reducing pollution of air and water, would it be justifiable to dismiss the entire industries? The answer is definitely no.

What should be equally worth discussing is that when we confound magnificent goals that match the majority or we have to overcome, we must face sacrifice. To tell a sportswoman I have great respect for, Chusovitina, the only female gymnast ever to compete in eight Olympic Games. To save her son’s life, under pressure from Uzbekistan, she represented three different national teams and completed games with extremely high age compared to other people. Entering games with high age and not working for her home country, in some people’s opinion, is harmful for her health and not justifiable for patriotism. However, for every mother, including Chusovitina, a child’s life means a lot and she has to save her son. In addition, to attain a goal that is beneficial for majority, it is unevaded that many people may pay a lot. Lincoln said that ” if an end is lawful and obligatory, then indispensable means to it are lawful and obligatory”, when he face with the pressure from the white, he did not forgive his effort to liberate the black from the slavery rule, which was indeed a worthy goal.

In sum, the speaker begs the question. The worthiness of any goal should be determined by weighting the gains and loss in a long term and wide range, considering the history environment and individual statement.
