In some cultures, children are often told that they can achieve anything if they try hard enough. What are the advantages and disadvantages of giving children this message?

In certain cultural background, people are fond of telling children that they can do anything just try hard enough. This kind of words always used as encouragement, and of course useful in a certain degree. But the questions come as followed should not be neglect too.

Talking to advantage, initiate young generations with the kind of words like “you can be anything you want” is a effective approach to build up their self confidence and strengthen their willing of persistence.Children who receiving this kind of education may grow to be confident and willing to challenge task that seem out of reach in others perspective, and these qualities are what we need in our future lives, it’s no doubt that we may raise it up in their childhood. All of those will benefit them a lot in their study, work, and even achieving their dream.

But there are voices argue that this heart-stirring words are not practical which may give an illusion to the children and make them miss the proper chance of giving up, unreasonable persisitence will be detrimental in many occasions. Children who be educated to be always persistent to a certain goal may ignore the danger arouse and find risking their health and safety for it.

I’m also concerning of the possibility that children will lose creativity and flexible thinking toward problems. When we solve certain problems, persistence is necessary, but an effective apprach plays a role just like our mind of keeping up.If we just teach children to be condifent and concentrate while casting how to find a right way to achieve our goal away, it will definiently do harm to them someday.

In conclusion, of course teach children to be willing to challenge difficulty and persistent is important, but we should always keep in mind that it also got negative effect, like losing creativity of finding ways to solve problems.
