In this age of intensive media coverage, it is no longer possible for a society to regard any living man or woman as a hero.

The author states that it is impossible for a society to regard any living man or woman as a hero in this age of intensive media coverage. However, I think that there are more and more living persons regarded as a hero with the help of media coverage. These persons exist in homes, society, and the world.

Through the media coverage, many typical families have emerged, known by the public, and viewed as role models. For example, in a family in a mountainous area, China, the parents worked hard every day, going up and down the mountain to collect wild herbs, so that they could exchange a little money at the market to support the education of children. Besides, their children spare no efforts in their studying. With the help of media coverage, this family was known by other people, who were moved by great paternal and maternal love. Moreover, other people view the parents as heroes, silently dedicated to their families.

The media also reported many heroes from all walks of life in society, making others know more about their work. Fire and emergency personnel are indispensable for society’s safety, but few people know the dangers of their work. In 2019, a forest fire broke out in Sichuan Province, China. Firefighters carried out rescue operations in the forest at an altitude of more than 4000 meters. During the fire fighting operation, the sudden forest fire exploded and formed a huge fireball due to the sudden change of wind direction, which results in all firefighters being sacrificed. After the media reported, many people know about these heroes and know about the danger of their work. If without this report, can other people know about the detailed situation.

Furthermore, the media make one living person well-known in all word. In recent years, the COVID-19 has killed many people and seriously affected people’s life. While people know these painful situations, they also learn about an old and vigorous man, Zhong Nanshan, from the media. He has made outstanding contributions to the fight against COVID-19 by working at the front line of the epidemic and proposing effective epidemic prevention methods. Just through the media’s continuous publicity, we can have the opportunity to “close” to understand the hero.

In conclusion, many heroes are well-known by people under the condition that the media reported their corresponding stories. Therefore, I disagree with the author’s point and think that it is possible for a society to regard a living man or woman as a hero in the age of media coverage.
