It is believed that secondary school children should study international news as one of their school subjects. Others think that this is a waste of valuable school time. Discuss both views and give your opinions.

In recent years, much more attention than ever has been paid to whether secondary school students are supposed to learn international news as one of their school subjects. Some people assert that it’s a waste of time, but I’m in favor of supporting learning it.

It is reasonable for someone to argue that school shouldn’t include it in the curriculum. To start with, we all know international news has nothing to do with academic learning during junior high school. For children at this stage, the purpose to study is to deal with exams. Nevertheless, this kind of study will not beneficial for getting good grades so this does not make sense in some ways. Moreover, it is widely accepted that learning this course takes up some time which is supposed to distribute to other main classes. In that case, not only our children must focus on the major course such as language class, math, science, but also have to cope with the new course. Thus, more pressure will be put on them.

By contrast, some others claim this has a profound and long-term positive impact on students. Then let me explore the issue from another angle. International news broadens students’ views, they can come into contact with politics, economics, and multiple cultures all over the world earlier. Even more importantly, stimulates curiosity to explore different kinds of areas, to promote their interest in learning. As for pressure, in the period, the study task is not very heavy, as long as the reasonable arrangement of time, students can carry on this aspect of the lecture. Last but not least, according to a large variety of experiences of successful people, it is easy to find out that their perspective on things is different from ordinary people, and their thinking ability is also excellent. All these come from their long-term cognition and exploration of the big world, from which the international news can much help.

For the reasons mentioned above, I am convinced that the advantages of including it in the curriculum outweigh the disadvantages.
