TPO 30: It is more enjoyable to have a job where you work only three days a week for long hours than to have a job where you work five days a week for shorter hours. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Many people have ever imagined that if they can do all the work within a few days, then they could enjoy a long vacation. The advent of this idea brings a prevalent discussion whether is it good for people to work only three days a week for a long hour or to work five days a week for shorter hours. Personally, I believed that it is beneficial for people to work five days a week for shorter hours. My viewpoint can be explained through the following reasons and examples.

First and foremost, only with the alternative pattern of working and resting, can people work with high efficiency. It is like crop rotation. Long-term cultivation will run out of nutrients in the field while the more sustainable approach is to leave the field for a few months to recover. Similarly, people are not feelingless robots. They will feel exhausted after a long time working. Meanwhile, it will undermine their efficiency and amplify the mistakes they are likely to make. By contrast, if people take a few hours to alleviate the whole day’s pressure, they are able to maintain a sharp brain, which in turn can boost their efficiency when they go back to work.

Secondly, a long time working will jeopardize people’s health. To begin with, sitting a long time in front of the screen will cause damage to physical health. According to Chinese Daily, more than 60 percent of white-collars have shortsightedness because of looking at the screen for a long time. Also, sedentariness will hamper the circulation of blood and increase the risk of chronic diseases, such as hypertension and hyperlipidemia. It is conducive for people to take a break after work. Moreover, working at high pressure can damage their mental well-being, resulting in phycological illness.

In a nutshell, working for a long time is unadvisable. Suffering from tremendous workloads, people are more likely to have poor efficiency and well-being. Only with working five days a week for shorter hours, can people work at high efficiency persistently and also keep their physical and mental health in shape.
