TPO 53: It is more important for governments to spend money to improve Internet access than to improve public transportation. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Both improving Internet access and improving public transportation are of vital importance to the development of a country, but with limited revenue, the government needs to decide which one requires more money. As far as I am concerned, spending money to improve Internet access is more important.

On the one hand, Internet is developing rapidly and will benefit everyone in many aspects. In the recent 10 years, we have witnessed the explosive growth of the number of netizens, which keeps growing faster and faster. To meet the need of these netizens, improving the Internet access is essential. Plus, it also help the country keep up with the trend of information era. In the meantime, the Internet makes our life much more convenient. For instance, we can search for any information we need through the Internet anytime and anywhere. What’s more, we can have a meeting or take classes online, overcoming the limit of time and space. Till now, due to the outbreak of virus, everyone need to work or study at home. Assume that we do not have such high Internet speed or online interfering platforms, how can we continue our daily life? Great Internet access guarantees our link to the world, and we need to keep improving the Internet access to follow the trend.

On the other hand, public transportation has been developed to a great extent. Take the United States as an example, it has established interlocking transport web in the 1960s. Now that its public transportation system has reached a point, it will cost much more money to increase transportation speed and efficiency. If we weigh the improvement against the cost, we will find that spending too much money on the public transportation is not so worthy. In addition, compare to the Internet, the transportation is not developing so rapidly, hence the financial support of public transportation is not such an urgent issue.

In a word, spending more money to improve Internet access is a wiser choice for the government.
