It is more important for governments to spend money to improve Internet access than to improve public transportation. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

With the rapid development of modern technology, the internet is indeed reshaping our lives. As it is said by Bill Clinton, advances in computer technology and the Internet have changed the way America works, learns and communicates. Therefore, considering the limit budget of local government, I strongly recommend that improving the Internet access is the first priority comparing to public transportation.

First, spending money to improve Internet access can help to cut down the cost of public transportation. Nowadays, more and more people including students, teachers, white-collar workers are participating in the trend of telecommuting. Instead of wasting several hours in a crowded bus without doing anything, online communication can save both our time and our energy for more important tasks. As a result, the actual time we have for work can be longer than we thought, which means more leisure time and more wages.

Moreover, telecommuting through a better Internet connection is more environment-friendly than public transportation. Even though buses and subways can carry more people than cars and planes, therefore cause less pollution, they still depend on fossil fuels to run. On the contrary, electricity is a cleaner energy resource relative to petrol, which means the Internet is a better choice if we do not want to do harm to the environment.

I admit there may be some works that can not be finished online. For example, some manual jobs such as building worker and technician still need to be on the spot. However, by making Internet accessible to more people, we can actually create a better commuting environment because the public transportation would be less crowded. What’s more, as we may expect, with the rising of Artificial Intelligence, someday we are likely to control robots to accomplish those works.

In conclusion, I would argue that more public spending should be invested on Internet other than transportation to save both our money, time and environment.
