Do you agree or disagree that with the following statement? It’s more important for the government to spend money to build art museums and music performance centers than to build recreational facilities (such as swimming pool and playgrounds).

With the accelerating development of our society, people’s living quality has been greatly improved and we have more time for recreation and pursuing spiritual life. While some people are advocators for that governments should spend more fund in building recreational facilities, there are also many people believe art museums and music performance centers worth more investment. From my perspective, I disagree that government should spend more money on supporting arts.

First, building more recreational facilities such as swimming pool and playgrounds can provide citizens with more spaces to do physical exercise. Although some exercise like jogging and walking can be done in parks or walking ways in housing estate, there are many other sports that require special facilities such as tennis courts and swimming pools. Sometimes it’s not that we don’t want to exercise, it’s just that we can’t find a place to do it. With more recreational facilities accessible and available, it will be more convenient for us to do the sports we want. Such easier access to physical exercise can motivate us to exercise more and can therefore improve the physical fitness of the whole people.

From an economic point of view, building art museums and music performance centers is not a good choice either. Good art museums and music performance centers require continuous investment and careful management. For instance, in order to maintain its attractiveness, an art museum needs to borrow works from other museums for exhibition from time to time. For a music performance center, frequently contacting and inviting famous musicians to perform is also necessary. All of these requires a great sum of money, needless to say costs on daily maintenance. If this amount of money can be used for building recreational facilities, more playgrounds and swimming pools can be built and thus more people will be benefited. Therefore, building recreational facilities is a more cost-effective investment.

Moreover, with the development of science and technology and the popularization of the Internet, going to art museums and music performance centers is no longer the only way to appreciate art. Nowadays, many online art exhibitions and live broadcast of music performance provide people with an alternative. However, sports facilities are still a must for most exercise and can’t be easily replaced.

In conclusion, I don’t think it’s more important for the government to spend money to build art museums and music performance centers than to build recreational facilities. Our life can be improved more significantly if the government spend more on recreational facilities such as swimming pools and playgrounds.
