Many governments think that economic progress is their most important goal. Some people, however, think that other types of progress are equally important for a country. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

There is lots of discussion about whether economic progress should be concerned mostly by government. Although I believe economic development is important for a country, there still are lots of aspects that equally important.

Advocates of setting economic progress as the primary goal believe this can offer certain advantages. As you know, economic progress can make people enjoy better life. This is because people can earn more money with development in economy which means that they can purchase something unaffordable before. For example, some poor families’ salary can only cover food in Africa 20 years ago, but now a part of them can drive sports cars at freeway and go abroad several times a year because of economic progress.

However, I think government should also concern about the healthcare system and  the issue of income disparity. With respect to the former, healthcare system is crucial for a country. If a government does not care about healthcare system, the consequences can be catastrophic. For example, people cannot get a valid cure in time because of unadvanced equipment in hospital which makes them cannot concentrate on work. So the productivity and creativity of a country will decrease. As for the latter one, income disparity can affect national stability adversely if the gap is huge. People working in different areas get different salary with the same efforts they made causing people’s dissatisfaction. Therefore, some people paid less will lose their interest in their job or even quit the job for hunting a better one. So the rate of unemployment will increase which is a threat to national stability.

It is undeniable that economic progress is relatively important to a country, but I believe that government should also take the healthcare system and income disparity into account, because these two aspects can have a great influence on a country.
