Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: Movies and television have more negative effects than positive effects on the way young people behave.

Within recent 30 years, our society has witnessed and experienced radical changes in the field of media. Wherever we are, lying in the sofa in our family cinema, or watching BBC news reports while taking the underground, we are enjoying the merit brought by the era of information. However, in spite of all the convenience, there has been a heated discussion about the negative sides of it. From my perspective, I think the disadvantages outweigh advantages.

Admittedly, through watching news, we can learn what’s happening around the world. While enjoying a classic old movie, we can learn its history background and the emotion the director wanted to express. However, long time of watching television leads to various problems. It does harm not only to our body but also to our mind.

First and foremost, sitting motionlessly in front of screen for long is bad for our physical health. Recently, in a experiment done by Dr. Harry Witchel gave 50 subjects different things, ranging from EU bank budgets analysis to thrilled movies and observe their behavior. In the report he published, he wrote that the more we are absorbed in what we are doing, the less movements we will make unconsciously. Consequently, when we are watching movies or TV programs, we are likely to keep the same posture for hours, which may result in more chances of getting diabetes or cardiovascular diseases.

Moreover, long hours of watching TV and movies can be detrimental to our mental health. Despite those scientific documentaries, there are much inappropriate contents, especially for teenagers such as pornography. Also, compared with boring study, soap drama are certainly draw more attention. In the long run, some teenagers who get addicted may wasting a whole day watching episodes. Some of them may even believe in those romantic but impractical plots, turning to wait for a handsome and wealthy man to marry them instead of working hard. Nevertheless, these stories seldom happen in real life.

In a nutshell, we should avoid being indulged in movies and televisions to live a healthy life.
