In the future, nobody will buy printed newspapers and books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
As technology develops, electronic means like phones and computers have been incorporated into every corner of our lives. One remarkable result of this is the emergence and prevalence of digital reading. Under this circumstance, some people claim an account that nobody will buy printed newspapers or books in the future. But I’m on the opposing spectrum regarding this statement.Indeed, we can’t negate the adversity traditional media is facing; however, new mass media is never a substitution for its traditional counterparts. Instead, electronic media is a development and extension of printed media.
Admittedly, now thousands of books and newspapers provide readers with digital forms. But paper versions still constitute an non-negligible proportion of the market shares. For those who still show favor towards traditional media, electronic media never supersede traditional ones. Moreover, a lot of e-books are not with full copyright privileges. Most of them are illicitly submitted on the internet in the form of photocopies. Although these photocopies offer some destitute people free resources, it has imposed a detrimental influence on society as the authors’ benefits are being ignored. In addition, in some regions, a multitude of families are so poverty-stricken that they can’t afford their livelihood necessities. In that case, with the material isolation from electronic tools, how can they get access to read online without paying?
In my opinion, printed newspapers and books can’t be replaced by digital forms. They are inextricably linked with each other and can both disseminate information and knowledge all over the world.
