Nowadays, people are more obsessed with buying material things like expensive clothes and cars because people judge each other according to their possessions. Agree or disagree?

To begin with, in business field, a lot of businessmen are addicted to purchase expensive cars and houses. As we all know, businessmen never show their weakness in negotiation and dealing, which leads to a dramatically increase of luxury goods consumption. If they drive normal cars and have dinner in poor restaurants, their customers and employees may belittle or even not trust them. Who can trust a businessman with no spare money to buy decent clothes? According to a survey conducted by China Daily, an English-language magazine with millions of subscribers, among 2,000 entrepreneurs, 80% of them indicated that expensive clothes and well-known brand cars could have a critical impact on their business, especially when investors are not familiar enough with them. Appearance is always significant in creating a positive impression at first glance. Therefore, considering the reality of the competitive market, businessmen are willing to pay for luxury goods.

Moreover, in daily life, there are also lots of people who purchasing expensive material things because of other people’s judgments. Recent years have witnessed great economic prosperity. As a result, the majority of people concentrate on wealth and entertainment but ignore mental enjoyment and moral standards. The popularity of internet also intensifies this tendency because more and more common people can know how rich class people live just by flipping through web pages. For instance, my five-year-old little sister once told me that she didn’t want to make acquaintance with those who wore poor skirts and clothes. Why is so? That was because she was addicted to tiktok , which provides millions of videos, such as the daily life of rich men, the makeups of well-known movie stars, love stories of CEO and wealthy girl. These videos convey a kind of value system that luxury goods are connected with a bright future and a decent life. With the popularity of such apps, young generations may spend their parents’ hard-earned cash on such unnecessary and costly consumption.
