Organized tour to remote community and other countries is increasingly popular. Is it a positive or negative development for the local people and the environment?
Contrary to the conventional practice of having a short trip around us, traveling to remote places and communities now gains more popularity. It does benefit local people and the environment in a long term,despite a little negative impact in a short term.
Many people choose to visit places away from their own cities,thereby local people may improve the awareness of the outside world by communicating with others who are different in thinking and ways of life. People living here may realise the importance of protecting the environment after listening to the complaints about the environmental problems such as air pollution and water pollution which visitors talk about. It means that they travel to these places as a form of escapism, so that it encourages local people to pay more attention to the environment.
Another benefit is that local people can earn more money by providing visitors with accommodation, transport,food and so on. People with diverse backgrounds and tastes need all kinds of services, which helps some sensible people get rid of poverty by setting up a company or a small group to offer these fundamental services. The development of the economy can prevent some factories from discharging enormous sewage because they have the ability to profit in an environment – friendly way.
However,in a short term,numerous travelers pour into their homeland with much pollution. Most people choose to take public transportation or call a taxi instead of walking in order to visit more tourist attractions.More emissions from vehicles may cause air pollution. What is more,a growing number of cars and buses are more likely to cause congestion,which would have a negative impact on local people’s daily life. In conclusion,traveling to remote places and communities brings not only the advanced thinking but also the job opportunities which are good for local people and the environment,although causing pollution with increasing demand of transportation.
