    Modern societies seem to be overwhelmed by fast-moving consumer goods. Companies and clients today get used to the short lifecycle of products. In my opinion, businesses may have facilitated this change. Also, their commercial behavior would put an extra strain on the environment.

    Most of us have once advised a friend to purchase things, however, companies today have seized this role. This is due to the change of buying habits. People today often search online information to determine whether to buy an object. Thus, many corporations endeavor to utilize this habit to promote products. For instance, people always buy a newest smartphone, within one year, even though the old one is still able to use. Online advertising may contribute to this phenomenon. As advertising strategies serve profits, so companies tend to persuade people to buy latest products as soon as possible. Therefore, many people are inclined to consider which items in their home can be updated.

    This commercial strategy, conducted by businesses, could jeopardize the environment. Many products, such as batteries, can pollute a large area of water or land. If manufacturers shortened these product lifecycles, it would cause unnecessary contamination. However, profits now are pushing businesses to sacrifice the environment. Companies may provide second-rate products to yield unexpected profits. For instance, their innovative product may outperform the previous one in every aspect except durability. Customers thus need to purchase the updated one in a short time. That will bring unexpected profits to manufacturers. On the face of things, customers enjoy innovative products in time and manufacturers raise more money. This is a win-win situation but at the cost of the environment.

    In conclusion, consumers influenced by manufacturers prefer to discard the old-fashioned objects in a short time. That could put an extra burden on the environment.
