Some experts believe that it is better for children to begin learning a foreign language at primary school rather than secondary school. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

Some people hold the idea that children should begin to learn a foreign language at primary school rather than secondary school. From my perspective, I believe that the advantages of this outweigh the adversities.

There are plenty of benefits for children starting learning a foreign language at an early age. To begin with, it is beneficial for cultivating their intuition for a new language because they are immersed in an appropriate environment. Even though young kids have limited comprehension of lexical or grammatical knowledge, they can get acquaintance of some common usage of a specific language. As we can see, those children burn in a bilingual family have a better command for both of the languages. On a humanity level, a majority of people who find a language hard to manage are unfamiliar with how to use it. But if a language becomes a part of their everyday life, this problem will be nonexistent.

However, not every child is bilingualism, nor everyone shows a strong willingness to speak a language which they would not normally use in daily life. Worse still, adding an extra course to the primary school curriculum indeed increases students’ burden and distract their attention to other subjects.

In conclusion, although it might pose some negative impacts on primary school study, I think children’s early exposure to language learning will benefit them a lot.

In conclusion, early exposure to language learning contributes to children’s future development. Young kids benefit a lot both in lingual learning and cultural cultivation. The biggest issue is how we give them proper guidance and arouse their studying potential.
