Some people say that art subjects such as painting or drawing should not be made compulsory for high school students. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Whether or not art subjects should be included into compulsory courses in school curricula is a debated topic. In my opinion, I believe these subjects are indispensable in school education.

Taking art classes is essential for school pupils for the reason that art-related subjects enable students to have a relax among heavy schoolwork. Students in high school have already been under huge pressures resulting from repetitive examinations and strict school rules. Classes like drawing or painting offer them chances to get rid of burdens from core courses and rest their brains for a while by means of drawing or painting whatever they like. Without such classes, school students may find it monotonous to take a class schedule overloaded with academic subjects, which would eventually leads to lack of motivations and interest in study.

Besides, learning art-related courses are also benefical for high school students’ brain development in a way that it boosts their creativity and observation capability. Art subjects provide learners with new prospectives to observe the world around them, and encourage them to express their inner world with different colors and shapes. In this way, through the process of art learning, school learners’ left brain will be exercised and hence their creativity can also be improved. In addition, by learning to appreciate artworks and make copies of masterpieces, new beginners tend to pay more attention to details and consequently improve their ability in oberservation.

To sum up, art courses not only help high school learners take a breath from heavy schoolwork, but also benefit a lot to their brain development. Therefore, I believe it is resonable to make art-related classes taught in a compulsive way.
