Because of globalization ,people need to negotiate and cooperate with those from diverse backgrounds. In this case, although we can eliminate the barriers through music, I believe it is not an appropriate approach of bring people of different cultures and ages together.

It is not easy for people to resonate through music because perception of music differs from culture to culture. Every country has its own culture and history, which leads to different appreciation of music. Some countries admire fast tempo so they are really into rock and rap while others enjoy elegant classical music because of their rich historical culture. Meanwhile, language barrier also has posed challenges to people from various areas. They cannot understand the meaning of lyrics well in different languages. As the old saying goes, birds from different feathers do not flock together.

At the same time, People from different age groups could find it difficult to have common ground. Each person’s experience determine his unique aesthetics and cognition, which means various lifetimes of all ages result in kinds of views of different things, including music. Therefore, it is difficult for them to get together to communicate effectively. For example, a weather-beaten old man may really enjoy quite light or period music while a teenager could consider it dull and outdated.

On the other hand，music has the function of bridging the gap and deepening the understanding among us. Some kinds of rhythm and melody are named languages without words, which can make people from different backgrounds produce the same feeling. Take the <You and Me> of the Beijing Olympics as an example, this song allow people all over the world to feel the spirit of unity and sportsmanship. Nice music enables us to get rid of misunderstandings.

In conclusion, although some music can eliminate the barriers, I consider that it is not a good way to bring people from various backgrounds together. The outlook on music is the reflection of the world view, philosophy of life and values.
