Teachers play an important role in teaching students about knowledges, with the conflicting views on whether or not teachers should teach students the knowledge beyond books. It is thought by many that teacher should teach not only knowledge from the book but also how to tell right from wrong.

Teaching knowledge beyond the book makes children behaved well and cultivates students’ outstanding characters. Because students who can tell right from wrong know what things can do and what things are illegal. Then students will obey the rules and behaved well, thus developing good personal quality. For example, students who can tell right from wrong will not take on drugs and drown themselves in alcohol, which could have a negative impact on them and they would more likely to achieve success because of their outstanding characters.

Another school of thoughts, however, contend that teaching knowledge beyond books is a wrong thing because the school doesn’t take full responsibility to teach students academic subjects but some knowledge beyond books. And it will have a bad influence on the student’s academic scores. Maybe teaching something beyond books benefit the student in some way, but all the effort will be in vain if a student can not score high because academic study is a primary job for every student.

Overall, I believe students should learn something beyond the book in the condition that all the knowledge from the book is fully understood by students. This way can shape students’ characters and lead them to success more easily.
