IELTS Task 2: Some people think that all university students should study whatever they like. Others believe that they should only ve allowed to study subjects that will be useful in the future, such as those related to science and technology discuss both these views and give you own opinion.

Starting with being admitted by the university, diving into the major which we are interested in or which will be practical in the future is the choice we have to make. Within this essay, both options will be discussed and from my own part, I would prefer to concentrate on what we are keen on rather than being realistic in undergraduate stage.

To discuss if we should learn what attracts us, two positive aspects should be mentioned, including improving efficiency and innovating. When learning subjects more interesting for us, it is generally easier for us to keep ourselves focusing on the knowledge rather than other irrelevant information. With sufficient attention, the speed we absorb essential message from textbook or lecture shall be raised effectively, which will make the process of leaning more efficient. Apart from that, being interested in a specific subject means that students are more willing to contribute themselves into it, including undertaking research and exploring unknown area within the subject. Under such circumstance, the attempt of innovating has been done automatically by new generation and the subject will be developed further as well.

Concerning being realistic in selecting major, it does own a substantial benefit while it may also influence undergraduate students negatively. If they choose relatively useful course such as science, it may be helpful in assisting them in obtaining internship opportunity or a full-time position since the demand for labor is considerable in such area. However, if those who originally interested in other subject flow into, the competence for searching job opportunity will rise overwhelmingly so that the origin advantage in job hunting declines gradually. What’s more, as students entering the useful major, the human resource for other major like art and history will be reduced, which makes the future of these area bleak.

To make the conclusion, even though selecting useful major will be beneficial in job hunting, the choice should be made by students in order to increase the efficiency in learning and develop the less popular major better.
