Some people think that with the increasing use of mobile phones and computers, people lose the ability to communicate face to face. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Thanks to the pervasive use of high-tech products, modern people are spending increasing time on mobile phones and computers rather than physical interactions with each other. From my point of view, obsession in virtual world does make people less sociable in real world than before.

The overuse of social platforms on the Internet has dampened people’s enthusiam for face to face communication, which consequently leads to lack of communication abilities. Nowadays, various forms of applications in cellphones and laptops provide users multi-functional tools where they can share their life and experiences with whoever they want. For instance, many people enjoy posting pictures about their feelings and emotions on social applications, like Wechat and Instergram, to get thumbs-up and attention from others, which help them gain a sense of achievement. By contrast, when it comes to converse with peers face to face, they would find it dull and less exciting, for the reason that they are tired of guessing others’ thoughts by observing gestures and emotions. And consequently, their capbilities in face-to-face communication will gradually be degraded.

Admittedly, the advanced technologies have made it convenient for users to keep in touch with people in distance, helping bond up with distant friends and relatives, and expand konwledge about social taboos and customs. With the assistance of well-developed devices, like phones or computers, one can easily get connected with people in the other end of the world whenever it is necessary, by which they can keep a sound relationship with their remote friends and family. Besides, through browsing on the Internet and having conversations with people in diverse cultures and backgrounds, they are able to know about different social manners. For example, online knowledge tells people it is inrespectful to use one’s left hand when shaking hands with others in India.

To sum up, although high-tech devices have brought much convience for people’s communication, too much use of them would surely damage people’s social skills in real world.
