Which way do you think is the best for a student to make new friends? a. joining a sports team, b. participate in community activities, c. traveling.

When it comes to the best way for students to make new friends, opinions vary based on people’s diverse backgrounds, experiences and values. From my perspective, joining a sports team is the best way to enlarge social circle.

First of all, joining a sports team is instrumental in making new friends. In detail, not only can athletes spend long time with their teammates, but they always have common topics and goals. My sister Monica, who is a French major in New York University, is a good case in point. Monica didn’t adapt to the new environment and then always felt lonely in her freshman year. In order to solve this problem, she joined in the volleyball team in next semester and trained five times a week. With the help of teammates Monica practiced and acquired plenty of basic skills, like attacking and blocking, and they usually watched volleyball games together and chatted with others after training. In this period, Monica buddied up with those who have similar interests and began to enjoy her university years.

Granted, some individuals may claim that by participating in community activities, students might get to enlarge social circle. This is because in these activities, students can come into contact with people from all walks of life, such as lawyers or dentists, which students cannot meet in campus. However, the benefits of participating in community activities outweigh its demerits. There is a generation gap between students and their neighbors. It is obvious that people of different ages have different topics.

Moreover, the vast majority of people may consider that traveling provides students with great opportunities to make new friends. In detail, students might meet and make friends with people from all over the world by traveling through the different countries. However, the long distance and different cultures wreak havoc on keeping in touch with those friends.

To sum up, taking into account all the factors discussed above, it is natural to draw the conclusion that joining a sports team ought to be the best way for students to make new friends.
