The charts compare typical meals consumed in the USA in terms of the average proportions of three categories of nutrients (sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar).

Dinner becomes the major occasion where American people consume sodium, creating a percentage of 43%. Sodium is also mainly used in lunch, with a figure of 29%, while the remaining amount of this type of nutrient is equally taken up by breakfast and snacks (14% respectively).

A similar pattern can be seen in the consumption of saturated fat. Dinner is still a major reason for people consuming saturated fat, though the figure drops to 37%. Lunch and breakfast contribute similar percentages (26% and 16% respectively) compared to those for sodium, while the figure for snacks increases notably to 21%.

In the added sugar case, the percentages for dinner and lunch continue to decrease, finally reaching 23% and 19%. By contrast, snacks are the main cause of sugar consumption, constituting a high percentage of 42%, and the figure for breakfast remains the same level.

Overall, sodium and saturated fat are majorly used in dinner, and people consume added sugar most in snacks.
