The graph below shows average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The line chart shows the difference between four countries in average CO2 emissions each person emitted during the period from 1967 to 2007.

Overall, people in the UK emitted the largest amount of average carbon dioxide, while people in Portugal emitted the smallest in the beginning. The difference between countries used to be large, but 40 years past, it became much smaller.

Italy and Portugal saw an upward trend in the first 30 years, and remain basically unchanged for the last ten years. Their CO2 emissions increased to around 180% and 500% respectively. On the opposite, United Kingdom decrease slightly although it is still the largest among these countries.

Sweden rose sharply in the first ten years, but it dropped suddenly when it almost overtook the UK in around 1977. Then in 1990, the average CO2 emissions in Sweden fell to the third, replacing Italy. By 2007, Sweden became the lowest one, reducing about 40% average emissions compared with 1967.
