Environmental problems have become a common concern for many. Some people may think that the major environmental problem is the loss of plants and animals. Others hold that there are more significant matter. I hold the view that the loss of plants and animals is a disturbing environmental issue.
Many people believe that the loss of species is the most serious issue because their extinction would destroy biodiversity, thereby harming the ecological balance. For instance, if wolves died out, the number of sheep would soar since the latter don’t have predators. As a result, overgrazing would damage meadows.
Others may argue that human behaviors would cause more severe environmental issues. This argument is based on the fact that the global population has been increasing in recent years. Hence, many governments are exploiting natural resources to meet people’s needs. For example, people in pacific island nations have cut down trees to make furniture and to construct houses. Additionally, in many developed economies, people use too much energy, causing an energy crisis.
Although the loss of plants and animals is severe, I think it is one aspect of environmental problems. The core of environmental issues is the disharmony between man and nature. Humans could access natural resources such as fossil minerals, agricultural lands, and marine lives without restrictions. As a result, their actions are bound to deteriorate the environment, perhaps resulting in species extinction.
