What is the most effective action for individuals to improve the environment? 1)Walking and bicycling instead of driving private cars to work or school; 2)Recycling or reusing objects instead of throwing them in the trash; 3)Buying locally grown organic products.

Adults and children reside in such a world where urbanization is advancing rapidly in the present day and age so that improving the environment is a heated discussion. Views toward this issue vary from person to person. Quite a majority tend to believe reducing commuting by driving a car and eating organic foods will benefit the environment a lot. However, I strongly believe that recycling is the most effective choice.

Initially, the reason why people should reuse products is that some products are difficult to decompose. To be more specific, fewer objects need to be decomposed, because of the recycling of products which may result in lower pollution so that it is better for the environment. For example, plastic needs more than 100 years to decompose if we bury it underground. Also, it will produce much of pollution that may cause global warming and acid rain, if people burn it. Therefore, if people reuse it instead of throwing them in garbage, people can not only save money but also can reduce damage to the environment. Researchers at the Chinese Academy of Environment Science conducted a survey of 3000 people. They drafted a list of questions centering on which behavior damages the environment most and asked those people to fill out the questionnaire. Among the people who wrote their answers, most of them mentioned recycling. It is irrefutable to claim that reusing objects is the most effective action to protect the environment.

In addition, there are some limitations between the two options. Admittedly, changing the way of commuting and using organic products is conducive to improving the environment to some extent. However, in comparison to recycling, the other two options enjoy less popularity among the most cities and cannot be implemented. The underlying reason is that they have more demerits than merits. That is to say, more time will be spent by walking to school, and it puts more effort into commuting so that people may have a bad mood for working and studying. Also, organic products are more expensive, people will spend more money on them.
