The table schematically illustrates the percentage of six different kinds of Australian families living in poverty in the year of 1999.

According to the table, only 10% aged people lived in poverty in 1999. By contrast, 570,000 people, which accounted accounts for more than a quarter of people having no child, without children led a poor life which accounted for more than a quarter of people having no child. As for parents, 33% of parents them (1,165,000 people), including both sole parent and couple with children as well, kept an impoverished life.

Poor single aged people made up 6% of the aged people (with 54,000 people ) [unclear  ]while aged couple only made up 4%. By contrast, those who were in poverty reached a dramatic higher rate of 19% among the childless single people. Similarly, 12% of couples with children led an impoverished life, but poor sole parent peaked at 21% with 232,000 people.

In brief, 11% of all households in Australia lived in poverty in 1999. The group with fewest people was aged couples, whereas the category with most people was sole parents.
