When it comes to the downsides of social media, some people will say that social media can not accurately express people’s meaning or feeling because people can not see others’ expressions or gestures, and can only try to understand others through words . Futhermore, online communication will never create the atmosphere that face-to-face communiction can produce easily. This atmosphere is valuable and attractive. This is the same reason why some people prefer watching live shows.

From my perspective, social media is definitely an excellent invention. Firstly, it reduces the cost of communication. Before, people had to travel long distances to meet friends and families, but now they can contact the one they miss without paying for train or flight tickets. Secondly, it’s more convenient to use social apps to keep in touch with others. As long as you have a smartphone and the Internet, you can call or text other people anytime and anywhere regardless of time or location. Another merit of online communication is its quickness. People can receive text or voice messages immediately. If you want to see others’ faces or expressions, you are also able to use video mode to chat with others in real time. Last but not least, social media is safer than offline contact. The COVID-19 pandemic is a good example. Since the broadcast of viruses, it is dangerous to stay in touch with others offline, therefore social media is the sole and best method to maintain communication at work and in life.
