Today more and more people use robots to do tasks at home and at work. Do you think it is a positive or negative development?

It has become the norm that many people employ robots to cope with domestic chores and to accomplish their work in the office, compared with the past when the majority of work had to be carried out by human beings. This has raised people’s awareness over the benefits and drawbacks of widely used robots. In my opinion, this is a positive development.

It is fair to say that robots have a detrimental impact on us. The fact that robots are taking the place of human employees, especially in manufacturing industry, might cause massive umemployment, which in turn would instill a sense of severe financial hardship and poverty in the society. Besides, children might be more selfish and lazy than they used to be, because there is no point for them to help with family chores anymore. This might contribute to the lacking of exercise and movements, which is one of the main cause of obesity.

In contrast, I believe that positive influences on both life and work outweigh negative ones. The most obvious advantage is that we can save time from doing meaningless and repetitive work by applying robots. To be specific, at home, parents can leave the housework, including washing clothes and cleaning the floor, to robots, whereby the time saved can be reallocated to child caring and eduaction. Regarding in offices, managers are more likely to focus on innovation and creation activities, since robots would be responsible for document work and filing. Another point lies in that the fear of losing job might inspire people to study and work more with the robots’ help so that they could gain advantages over robots, hanging on to their jobs.

In conclusion, robots benefit us by saving time and energy and by encourage people to enrich themselves, albeit the potential problems in employment and health. The trend of more robots in use is a relatively positive development to a large extent.
