Today, the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of the society in which they are sold. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The consumer culture has been affecting people’s lives as it makes people buy various consumer goods to statisfy with their daily demands. I think that this phenomenon reflects the influence of adverts, although it is not the only factor that can make customers purchase the good.

Advert allow people to know more information about different kind of products through the internet or television. They are likely to be tempted by the products that adverts promote due to the fact that they have exposure to these adverts every day. For example, there are some adverts that aim for teenagers and these adverts can always draw young people’s attention to them by promoting the products that have up-to-date features. In this situation, teenagers are likely to place an order without any hesitation, even though they don’t really need it.

Besides, advertising can provide merchants with a method to increase the sales of their goods by promoting . Many merchants try to make their adverts novel In order to attract more customers. For instance, businessmen always invite the celebrties or movie stars to promote their goods as propaganda . and the fans may like to buy these products , which are promoted by people they are obsessed with, although the price of the goods would be relatively high.

On the other hand, to those who do not concern about advertising, the tricks above will not have any impact to them. Partciular in elderly, they might not be tempted by the adverts because they are more mature and sophisticated than young people, so they will only spend money on practical goods in their daily lives instead of the popular ones.

In conclusion, advertising may have some impact to consumes and it may tempt people to purchase  the products. However, it has no direct connection to the increase in sales of goods
