    TPO50 Task1

In the lecture, the professor casts doubt on the reading passage’s idea that three unsolvable problems stop humans to have round-trip to Mars. The professor asserts that scientists have presented some possible solutions.

Firstly, contrary to the belief in the passage that the trip is so time-consuming that people cannot bring enough food on board, the professor insists that a new technique allows humans to cultivate plants in water in spacecraft, which provides steady supplies of food, clean water and fresh oxygen.

Secondly, the author of the passage points out that people cannot stop a negative effect of the loss of muscle mass and bone density in the zeros-gravity environment. The lecture, however, notes that astronauts stop the muscle decreasing through exercises and keep bone density by taking vitamins and mineral, calcium in particular, in space stations. Therefore, it is possible to relief the negative effects in space.

Lastly, opposing to the author’s view that sun radiation might hurt people, since there is no Earth’s magnetic field to protect them, the professor contends that the radiation is not always active to be harmful for human bodies. A particular instrument can help people detect the radiation, so people can hide in a small room, which put on a little weight on the spaceship, when the radiation is active.
