Universities and colleges are now offering qualifications through distance learning from the internet rather than teachers in the classroom. Do you think the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

Recently, distant learning has been becoming one of the trendiest learning methods. There is no doubt that learning online has some drawback, but I still think the advantages of this method outweigh the drawbacks.

To begin with, distant learning from the internet means students will have more availability. It provides more options for students to choose the time and place for classes, therefore students can create studying schedules more flexible and end up learning in a more efficient way. What’s more, they also can take other optional courses they liked to enrich their knowledge. Compared with online courses, learning at classrooms has many restrictions such as fixed class-time and unchanged classroom. If schools and universities do not provide online courses, students will not be able to make up for missed classrooms.

Although the fact that people can definitely benefit from distant education, I have to admit that there also some shortages of studying online. Firstly, learning from the internet has negative influence on people’s health to some extent. People need to use computers or other digital devices to study online and spend too much time looking at the screen, which is bad for people’s eyes. Furthermore, the blue light from the screen may affect students’ sleep. Secondly, some students cannot concentrate on their study when they learn online. For instance, those people with poor self -control may get distracted easily without help of teachers, and as a result, they cannot understand nothing.

In conclusion, distant education may have some negative influences, but I think it brings more benefits than drawbacks, and it is worthy to be used wildly in universities and schools.
