In the past, young people depended too much on their parents to make decisions for them; today young people are better able to make decisions about their own lives.

It is conceivable that Chinese parents usually make choices for their kids, claiming that all decisions are for their own good. Children had no choice but to comply with their parents. Conversely, in modern society, I believe that young people can better make decisions about their own lives.

First, teenagers nowadays can receive advice via Internet, through more guidance and reference they can make better choices. A good decision-making skill depends mainly on how broad a person experiences. To be more specific, through Internet, youngsters can read about interviews of people from a prestigious college or an engineer sharing his career suggestions, therefore, gain helpful information from an experienced hand. By contrast, back in the day, children’s value systems were created by people around them, such as parents or classmates. Their narrow and limited environment defined their particular set of paradigms.

Second, contemporary society has provided opportunities for students to trial and error. Young people can determine their future path by electing different courses. Meanwhile, schools allow their pupils to drop out of classes they are not interested in; college allows students to switch majors. Juveniles have more opportunities to form their interests and life pursuits. On the contrary, society left students with few choices in previous times. The only true answer to a decent living was to graduate from college. As a result, students had no choice but to conform to such trend. In our world, where students are spoilt for choices through courses of different disciplines, they can markedly better make their settlement.

Irrefutably, some might suggest that young people are immature to make the best decision and such puerile behavior will end up irreversible error. In my view, every student may indeed have anxious feelings about their life or not yet recognize their objections. Nonetheless, students exposed to more information and experience in interested fields can undoubtedly aid them in making a better decision.
