Entering the university, at least for most Chinese students, means that we gain more chances to do team projects. However, the debate that whether teamwork can let students learn more efficiently for a project than individual work, is still heated. Personally speaking, I consider teamwork is better for our study.

To begin with, the significant benefit of teamwork is that students could learn from each other. As the saying goes: one plus one is two, but one idea plus another can be various ideas. The quote strongly indicates the importance of the interaction and communication during finishing a task. When people communicate their ideas about one specific topic, it’s more likely for them to find out the defects and faults, so that they can correct and improve them together.

Moreover, it’s more likely to form a specific timetable or plan for a team project. It can prevent the casual time-management that usually exists in a single-person work. When we get a team, we will mostly have meeting. The plan and timetable are always an essential part to discuss in the meeting, making the task more manageable. Therefore, the efficiency of the work can be greatly elevated, for no one would like to be blamed for missing the deadline.

Last but not least, students are more motivated when working in groups than alone. According to a newly proposed research in China, social activity can promote the motivation of a person in many aspects and even maintain the motivation in a long term, including study. With this result, we can draw a conclusion that team works, as a type of social activity, can motivate students in their daily work, which is helpful to finishing the mission, besides, even can benefit them in the future.

In my perspective, despite the single-person work has its benefits, with the above advantages of teamwork, we can easily draw a conclusion that teamwork is superior to the single-person work in many aspects, which can benefit the efficiency of the tasks, the motivation of the participants, as long as mutual learning.

According to the reading material, three theories attempt to explain the purpose and meaning of the carved stone balls. At the same time, the lecturer, contradicting them by using specific reasons, considers none of them convincing.

The first theory indicates that the balls are weapons used for hunting and fighting because of the grooves and holes. However, the speaker explains that some common weapons like arrows are likely to be cracked, but the stone balls are well-preserved, showing that they are impossible to be weapons.

Secondly, because of the uniformity in size, a theory demonstrates that the carved stone ball may represent a specific unit, and be used to weigh things. On the contrary, the speaker strongly contradicts the statement by stating that the materials of the stone balls are different. They have different densities, therefore, the weights of the balls are also various, making it impossible for the weighing function.

The last theory, pointing out the elaborate designs on the ball, indicates the social use of the stone balls, specifically, representing the status of a person. In contrast, the lecturer considers the design on the balls is too simple to show the status of a high-class person. In addition, the graves of the high-ranking persons, which always contain the possessions they had to show their power and status, do not include the carved balls.
